Join performance artist Jess Dobkin for a tour of our exhibition ‘Milk’. Jess will explore the place of performance and live encounters in gallery experiences, and consider what happens when archival research meets creative expression.
Jess Dobkin’s new commission, ‘For What It’s Worth’, is part of the exhibition, and invites you to consider the politics and ethics of selling and exchanging human milk in the 21st century. The installation includes objects and images collected during her research, as well as a soundtrack featuring conversations with her collaborators.

About your guide
Jess Dobkin
Jess Dobkin’s work is situated in community and collaboration, often working with teams of contributing artists, designers, scholars and activists. Recent projects include her retrospective exhibition, ‘Jess Dobkin’s Wetrospective’, at the Art Gallery of York University. Jess is Performing Archives Lead and Collaborating Artist of Hemispheric Encounters: Developing Transborder Research-Creation Practices and was awarded a Chalmers Arts Fellowship to support her research in international performance art archives. She was Artist-in-Residence at the Hemispheric Institute for Performance and Politics at New York University and a fellow at the Mark S Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto.
