She may fuffer from anxietv and agitation : < r a flooding from partial feparation may enfue, and life itfelf be quickly extinguifhed. If the operator cannot flay confiantly with the pa- tient, nor any affiflant be procured, the beft practice is to give a full dofe of opium, as 40 or 50 g«» L. L.; and when fhe is compofed, and begins to be drowfy, if the cake cannot be brought away by pul- ling at the ccrd, and uterine efforts are in vain wait- ed for, the hand of the operator may then be intro- duced into the uterus in a conical manner, and the conflriclion gently and gradually be overcome. The cake will probably be found moftly loofe and difen- gngui, which muft be firmly grafped in the hand and removed. 4.
