The composition is attributed to Girolamo Olgiati, an engraver and print publisher active in Venice ca. 1567-1574. There is an engraving of the composition by Hieronymus Wierix (1553-1619), with Latin lettering. The surround present in this painting, which represents the composition as a mirror ("speculum") of the onlooker, is not in the engraving
