Description

Collection of medical receipts and notes, from Haviland's MSS., and extracted from numerous early 18th cent. medical writers. In an inter-leaved copy of Thomas Fuller's 'Pharmacopoeia extemporanea'. Editio tertia. London, 1705. By various hands: in Latin throughout. The date 1713 is found on the leaf facing p. 136. 'Haviland MSS', or 'Hav.' is written against many of the receipts. On the inter-leaf facing p. 128 is the signature 'Isaac Roet Oxoniens[is]' apparently written by a very old man. He is mentioned by Anthony à Wood in his 'Athenae Oxonienses' Vol. III, p. 760, and wrote 'Pestis adumbrata' published in London in 1666.

Biographical note

John Haviland matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford, in 1669, and was B. Med. from Hart Hall in 1678.

Ownership note

On the second leaf is a library stamp in red, lettered 'T. Thoresby'.
