About this work
Description
The last in an eight-part series following the stories of people with various sleep disorders as they visit Papworth Sleep Clinic. This part features Rob, a teenager who can't wake up and Margaret, a sixty-year-old woman with severe arthritis who spends all day in a wheelchair and sleepwalks with her sticks all night. Rob's drowsiness cost him his job and is ruining his life - his parents spend hours every morning trying to wake him up. Now his firm have promised to take him back on so long as he can make it in at a reasonable time in the morning. Papworth study him and diagnose ideopathic hypersomnia, a condition which means he needs too much sleep, and which can be treated with medication. Margaret is depressed about her night-time wanderings and there is a serious concern because she often takes medication which she should take in the day only, putting her at risk of overdosing. The Papworth study shows that she's deeply asleep when walking around so is suffering from somnambulism, again this can be treated with drugs.
