About this work

Description

Researchers have identified genes for speech and language. Dr Anthony Monaco from the Wellcome Trust for Human Genetics, in Oxford, explains that language impairments are due to faulty genes . In one family, with a speech impairment, three generations have been studied over ten years, and a specific gene has been pinpointed. 4% of children see speech therapists. Understanding the underlying genetic problem may help.
