Hitler's forgotten victims: black survivors of the holocaust.

Documentary examining the plight of black and mixed race people in Germany during the Third Reich. Interwar Germany was scandalised by the existence of more than 800 mixed race children, a result of the occupation of the Rhineland by the French Colonial Army after the First World War. Hitler believed that France brought Africans into Germany to ruin the white race. At least half of these children were sterilised; another 400 'disappeared'. Many black adults were working in the entertainment industry, and some found safety in the demand for extras in propaganda films portraying Africans as primitive people that must be conquered and ruled by the Germans. Others were not so fortunate and tell of their suffering endured at the hands of the Gestapo and in concentration camps. There is good use of archive footage and compelling interviews with survivors and their descendents. It concludes by highlighting the anger felt towards the present German goverment for refusing to recognise the suffering of black Germans during this period.
