About this work

Description

Apothecary's prescription book, with notes on patients and their maladies, from 8 September 1781 to 24 February, 1782: in German. The entries are written by different hands. Inside the upper cover is a modern reproduction of G. Locher's portrait of the Swiss empiric and uroscopist Michel Schüppach [1707-1781]. This shows Schüppach in his Pharmacy seated before a lady, and holding up a urine-flask. This portrait is reproduced in an article on Schüppach by M. Camille Vieillard in the 'Bulletin de la Société française d'Histoire de la Médecine' t. 2, no. 1, pp. 146-154, 1902. Schüppach practised for a time at Langnau. The initials 'E.H.' are inscribed outside the lower cover, and this MS. was acquired with other books, pictures, etc., from the Hirschebrunner Pharmacy. Produced in Langnau.
