About this work
Description
Is ignorance the NHS's most serious illness? Health managers have insufficient data about the effectiveness of the service - no feedback, research or surveys on the best methods of nursing, physiotherapy, etc. Govt has failed to gather data on innovative practices, so good ideas cannot be shared. Christine Hancock advocates increased use of home care, self-help, and low-tech community nursing to reduce the pressure on district general hospitals. John Wilman justifies charging a fee for visiting one's GP. Demand is outstripping resources and govt and doctors are in conflict.
