When a mother's love is not enough.

Rosa Monckton, mother to a daughter with Down's syndrome, reports on how difficult it is for families with disabled children to cope on a day to day basis. Various families tell their stories and talk frankly about the difficulties they face. Not only is life at home difficult but many families are treated aggressively by both strangers and neighbours. David Cameron talks about the death of his son, Ivan, from cerebral palsy. Stories of mothers who have killed disabled children are told, such as that of Joanne Hill. Julie's daughter, Rose, has an undiagnosed disability which affects her brain and leaves her screaming and crying, sometimes for days on end. She describes how close she came to suicide. Other parents struggle with the decision to put their child into care. It is clear that more help from social services is vital for the well-being of the disabled child and their family.
