This- is done several times until water condenses in the capillary tube leading from D to E, when a brisk boiling is kept up for a few minutes, the condensed water is drawn back into D, by raising the mercury, connecting the w'ater in JJ and E, and drawing it back into D by slowly lowering the Eeservoir R. The gas is passed out, and this operation repeated until no further gas is- obtained. Fioure III.
