Description
Two wooden statues, one of St Lucy (also St Lucia) represented holding two eyes on a plate, invoked against haemorrhage, dysentary, ailments of the throat and eyes and contagious diseases. The other is of St Pantaleon (3rd century) physician, holding a book and staff. Invoked against famine caused by locusts and consumption. The statue of St Lucy was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1931 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R2422/1937). The statue of St Pantaleon was purchased by the Museum in 1928 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R2420/1937). Neither are held by Wellcome Collection.
