Description

The spine of the volume reads "Manuscript on Gravid Uterus"; however the text also describes labour, the foetus, the earlier stages of pregnancy, menstruation, impregnation and conception, monsters, flooding, retroversion of uterus, diseases of women including "hysterica" and "fluor albus", diseases of the uterus, more on pregnancy and labour, convulsions, treatment after delivery, issues of infant health including teething and recommendation of when to innoculate.

Not clear whether this is notes of lectures, or information compiled from miscellaneous sources. Includes mentions of various medical authorities of the period.

Note by dealer in their catalogue states 'On original pastedown "JB from J Brown Esq Island of Summatra 1810" but this is not visible in this volume. No J Brown appears in the Sumatra section of DG Crawford, Roll of the Indian Medical Service, although P.J. and R.V. Wallis Eighteenth century medics: subscriptions, licenses, apprenticeships lists a James Brown active in late C18th-early C19th and said to be "East India Compnay".
