The intelligence man : the story of a scientific fraud.

Professor Sir Cyril Burt (1883-1971) believed that intelligence was inherited and related to social status and was determined to prove it. The story of his life and work is told by dramatic reconstruction interspersed with comment from Prof. Raymond Cattell, Prof. Hans Eysenck and Prof. Arthur Jenson. The film shows Burt's childhood meeting with Francis Galton who became his hero and influenced his thought for the rest of his life. It portrays his methods of research and the doubts actually existed. It was Burt's 1956 report on the IQs of 53 pairs of identical twins reared apart which, after his death, drew allegations of fraud. These allegations are now being questioned. Cyril Burt is played by John Shrapnel, with Annabel Leventon as Lady Burt and Philip Locke as Francis Galton.
