About this work

Description

Bible, O.T. Genesis 8.17-21; 11.1-4; 9.13. After God smells the "sweet savour" of Noah's sacrifice (Genesis 8.21), he sets a "bow in the cloud" (Genesis 9.13) to seal his covenant with Noah's people. In the middle image, the two figures in the left-hand corner may refer back to Brueghel's 'Tower of Babel' in which Nimrod the king, in the left-hand corner with his entourage, supervises the building. In the print, one of the two figures wears a crown and the other, perhaps an architect, holds a plan
