About this work

Description

A detailed study of Hitler's use of film propaganda between 1937 and 1942 to promote and disguise his "euthanasia" programme to eliminate Germany's physically and mentally disabled by gassing them. Presenting the extermination programme as a merciful and socially responsible enterprise, the films were made for both the general public and specialist audiences with the help of commercial filmakers and well known actors. Substantial clips from four of these films are shown:"Opfer der Vergangenheit""The Burden of History"; Erbkrank"Hereditarily Ill"; "Dasein Ohne Leben Existence without Life and Ich Klage An"I Accuse. They are intercut with testimony of survivors of Hadamar mental hospital, one of Hitler's main extermination centres for the disabled.
