Woodcut illustration from Shenti sancai tuhui (Coloured Illustrations of the Body), by the Ming (1368 - 1644) author Wang Siyi, showing the specific disease location for houbichuang (abscess obstructing the throat). This condition generally originates at the root of the tongue. It is caused by wind-heat, when blood and Qi coagulate together.
