    is taught or investigated shall be thoroughly done. The charac- teristics of Cambridge science in the past have been exactness and thoroughness; and in the University of Bacon, of Newton, and of Darwin we must see to it that our work is carried on with zeal, that our methods are characterised by precision, and our results recorded with accuracy. The examples of the great men who have worked here, often under manifold disadvantages, should stir us up to further effort. The domain of human anatomy is wide, and much of it yet remains to be sought out; but all the easy work is done, and research in the future requires pains and patience. May our new anatomy buildings be the centre of renewed activity, and may the work done here be worthy of our ancient University and our still more ancient science.
