About this work

Description

Three wooden statues, one of St Maur, also known as St Marus (512-584), one of St Anne with the Virgin Mary in her womb, invoked by pregnant women for successful delivery, and one of St Herbot with a cow. Peasants put their cattle under his protection. The first statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R577/1938). The second was purchased by the Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4737/1937). The third was purchased by the Museum in 1929 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R567/1938). None of them are held by Wellcome Collection.
