About this work

Description

'Skit note' satirizing the new paper banknotes that were being introduced in the late 18th century. This one features a small engraved vignette of a bewigged man extracting a seated, blindfolded man's tooth, the legend "Nunquam non paratus" below it. Woodmancote and Bishops Cleeve are small towns in Gloucestershire. The note has been completed in manuscript and, in this instance, dated May 3rd 1792. The bank is possibly fictional.
