Raw ginger, illustration

Sepia ink on watercolour paper illustration of raw ginger, as seen through a scanning electron microscope. Raw ginger flesh reveals a natural, hollow honeycomb pattern seen here together with small round cells of yeast. The scale of the drawing is over 2000X. These drawings form part of a series of work "Raw to Processed" which considers food and its relationship to health, looking at patterns in the structure of food and how these change when food is processed.
