    Clinical Notes on Graves' Disease. By Professor Grainger Stewart, M.D., RR.C.P.EcL, and G. A. Gibson, M.D, D.Sc., RR.C.P.Ed. Our purpose in the following paper is to comment briefly upon the symptoms generally recognised as proper to Graves' disease, to indicate some of its rarer complications, and par- ticularly one or two which we believe to have been hitherto undescribed ; and also to give a succinct account of some cases which we have had under observation in the Infirmary during the past year, with reports of two autopsies, mcluding the microscopic examination of the most important structures' involved. We shall endeavom% in so far as may be possible in detailing the more unusual or less generally recognised symptoms, to trace their relations to the primary phenomena and their probable causation. In the following pages we shall follow the method of investigation which is employed in the Royal Infirmary. Affections of the alimentary system occur in almost every instance of Graves' disease, and we find amongst our cases a large proportion exhibiting disturbances both of stomach and bowels. Not only have we met with various forms of gastro- intestinal crises, such as- severe vomiting and profuse diarrhoea, together with symptoms like boulimia and pica, and complica- tions such as haematemesis and melsena, but in one or two well-marked cases the tendency towards recovery was mani- festly influenced by treatment of the attendant dyspepsia. In some instances, on the other hand, which have come under our notice, it has been obvious that a rapid development and fatal tendency of the disease have been attended by severe and mtractable gastric disturbance.
