About this work

Description

Shows ground level shrub with small, bill-shaped flowers. Produces much nectar and is attractive to bees. The branches are used in broom-making; the plant yields a yellow dye; the root used in the making of briar pipes. The macerated plant has been used to make a liniment to treat arthritis and rheumatism, often with rhododendron. Poultices of heather were used to treat chilblains.
