About this work

Description

In Orlando innamorato and Orlando furioso, the helmet of the Moorish king Mambrino makes the wearer of it invulnerable. Don Quixote in his delusions identifies the helmet in a shaving bowl which a barber uses to protect his head from the rain. The barber's mount, a donkey, stands beside him. The handles of a pair of scissors stick out from a pouch. Lying discarded in the ground is the barber's basin. In the distance on the brow of a hill Sancho Panza on his donkey watches in consternation
