    11 experiments render it impossible to determine accurately the mean temperature of the body in infants and children: but for practical purposes, it will be safe to regard it as ^° lower than in the adult. Much remains to be done before the questions propounded in this paper can be satisfactorily answered: but so far, the necessity has been shown for accurately fixing the temperature of the body in the earlier periods of life, if the thermometer is to be regarded of value in the investigation of the diseases of infancy and childhood.
