About this work
Description
Presented by Kate Garraway, this programme looks at wet nursing and meets women who breast feed other people's babies. We meet a woman who feeds her own as well as a friend's children and a woman who tandem feeds her 5 and 4-year-old children. Emily breast feeds her own baby and pumps milk from her breasts up to 6 hours a day which she donates to the hospital for premature babies to feed on. Garraway tries a sip of her milk and we see how cross-feeding works. One woman stimulated her breasts to produce milk so she could be a wet nurse even though she had never had children herself. In the US wet nurses are much more common and breast milk is available to buy; the programme shows a gay couple raising 3 children using the breast milk from a wet nurse and Garraway interviews a professional US wet nurse. Vanessa Beecroft fed starving children in a Sudan orphanage and Garraway meets a man who drinks breast milk to help get rid of his prostate cancer.
