Description

Field Ambulance diaries of Major Wilmot, whilst attached to 140th Field Ambulance Unit.

The first diary is an Army Book containing manuscript entries from 9th December 1915 when Wilmost takes command of the Unit, until 18 April 1916 when the Unit received orders to prepare for service overseas. Entries describe unit training, notably at the School of Sanitation, Aldershot, and medical condition of men.

The second diary is a Field Message Book containing notes on the 140th Field Ambulance Unit in Northern France during the month of April 1917, including notes on positions and routes, operational orders received, condition of men, accommodation and billets for the men, diet and meals, weather and temperature, recreation (football matches), drills, parades and church services. No apparent notes on casualties or medical work.
