About this work

Description

Copies of letters from Sir Robert Abdy, written to his son [Sir] John Abdy [ -1691] while he was on a tour in France, under the care of John Downes M.D. [1627-1694], etc. Brewing and wine accounts for the Abdy Family at Albyns 1739-1749. The letters are contained in the first 17 ll.; the last 4 ll. contain a copy of John Abdy's 'License to Travell', dated 10/5/1664. These two sections are by the hand of the younger Abdy, who has signed his name at each end of the volume. The letters are full of paternal advice on his educational tour in France, and are written from Albyns in Essex, the family seat, under the date 1664. The 'Account of what beer is brewed at Albyns per William Jones' runs from 1739-1749: the accounts for wines and spirits supplied are from 1742-1749.
