About this work

Also known as

Previous title, replaced April 2024 : Indian hut with palm trees in Guyana. Watercolour after C.A. Goodall, 1846.

Description

A pair of very tall palms, no stilt roots, unarmed, with broad leaflets. There may be horn-shaped unopened inflorescences in the crown. A crownshaft present. As the palms are depicted growing near habitations, they may be cultivated. There is insufficient detail in the painting to identify the palms. This is the only composition among Goodall's paintings in the Wellcome collection that has been published, as the frontispiece to Goodall (loc. cit.)
