The peacock stands in the foreground, on the left of Adam. God and the lion look at each other. A pair of bears are seen milling around some sheep. The bull lurks in the right hand corner.

Bible. O.T. Genesis 2.21-23. Eve emerges from Adam's sleeping side in a gesture of prayer to Adam. God stands behind as if in approval of this delegation. Cf. Milton, "Paradise Lost", book 4, l. 299: "He for God only, she for God in him".
