Description

Facsimile of Jarvis's autograph autobiography, the original held at Harvard as MS. Amer. 541. In it Jarvis describes his youth in Concord, Mass., his subsequent medical practice in Concord and for a while in Louisville, Ky., and a visit to England in 1860 in which he spent time chiefly at Malvern as a medical attendant to another American but also pursued his dominant interest, in the care for the insane, with visits to various London societies and institutions. Photocopied manuscript (original, 1860; date of copy not known).
