    Under circumstances much less formidable than those now enumerated, the same principle may be advantageously applied; for the same reason it is objectionable for a person to sit down to a hearty meal immediately after any great ex- ertion, either of mind or body. Those who are of a delicate appetite and a feeble frame, find themselves much oppressed at the Stomach by dining at a late hour, and are apt to fall asleep. A person who spends the morning in study, or in some sedentary or literary occupation, should make a rule to walk briskly for half an hour be- fore he dines. But the man who comes home fatigued by bodily exertions, especially if he feel heated by it, should throw his legs upon a chair, and remain quite tranquil and composed, that the energy which has been dispersed to the extremities may have time to return to the St(3^ mach, where it is now required. I have been led to expatiate on this subject from a conviction of its importance, and though 1 am aware that to many it may appear fanciful and imaginary, those who will reflect upon it will find the value of its application.
