About this work

Description

Informally recorded with good audio quality conference proceedings of the Spastics Society, April 28th, 1978. An introduction in Welsh. The director of the Spastics Society, James Loring, is introduced. He mentions that this is a year of 'prevention' and there will be 8 seminars held around the country, pressing for improvement in ante-natal and maternity services in a time of government cuts. The second speaker talks about the welfare of pregnant women and the outcomes of pregnancy after considering a number of risk factors particularly in early pregnancy. He mentions the beneficial impact of pregnant women taking folic acid, then the use of the drug thalidomide during pregnancy, followed by the risk from rubella (German measles). Other speakers contribute to different aspects of maternal and perinatal welfare.
