About this work

Description

Illustrated receipt for a donation or (in this case) subscription to the hospital. Two circles surrounded by quotes from the Bible contain engravings of a beggar living from the 'crumbs which fall from the rich man's table' and the good samaritan. In this case the receipt is made out to the Earl of Egremont on 18 June 1791 for a subscription of five guineas and signed by the treasurers.
