Gene therapy.

Peter Evans assesses the current state of gene therapy and investigates whether or not it is living up to its initial promise when discovered in 2000. He travels to France to meet the team of doctors who first used gene therapy to treat children suffering from SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency). Although the treatment of these children wasn't a long term success, scientists are now working on ways that gene therapy may be able to help treat haemophilia and cancer.
