About this work
Description
Prof. Charles Weismann, Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology in Zurich, has discovered how to delete the gene that causes the formation of PRP protein. This gene plays an important role in the development of scrapie in sheep and BSE in cattle. Prof. Weismann said that Dr Wilmott of Roslin Institute had manipulated an embryonic cell of the sheep in such a way that technically it should also be possible to experiment with sheep. But that it would be some time before any work could start as it would be necessary to produce enough sheep with the proper genetic background to do the experiments.
