About this work

Description

Documentary examining three cases of amnesia, in a young, a middle-aged and an elderly man. All are patients at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. The first two cases were caused by a bang on the head; the third, by a cerebral haemhorrage. The physical damage to the brain is examined, as far as it can be perceived, although in the case of the second patient, no damage could be seen and he was suspected of simulating amnesia. The film shows clearly how amnesia disrupts every aspect of the victim's life and conveys the perplexity experienced by doctors, patients and their families in striving to cure or cope with this puzzling condition.
