A species of Desmoncus. The palm is shown with a slightly flexuous stem bearing leaves along most of its length, an infructescence with a spiny peduncular bract, and leaves with cirri. The cirrus is the extension of the tip of the leafy rachis bearing grappling-modified leaflets and sometimes prickles. The long straight prickles on the rachises and the absence of prickles on the cirri are characteristics of D. horridus ssp. horridus (A.
