BM Cat. seems to regard B. Comperat as the pseud. of E. Gourmelen, presumably because the 'Replique' was included in the 1647 edition of the latter's 'Oeuvers chirurgicales'

Janet Doe, A bibliography of A. Paré, p. 120-122 outlines the history of the controversy between Paré and Gourmelen, but states that Comperat was Gourmelen's pupil.
