Description

These lectures relate to William Duncan (1832-1918) and his missionary work among the Metlakatla [Tsimshian] Native Americans of British Columbia.

2 manuscript lectures on "The Mission Field of Metlahkatlah", the first covering the period c.1856-1869 and including an account of the initial mission at Fort Simpson, and the second covering the period c.1869-1873. Both quote extensively from reports, letters and other accounts by Duncan, other missionaries and visitors to the mission including R. A. Doolan; the Bishop of Columbia; E. Cridge, Dean of Victoria; and Vincent Colyer, United States Special Commissioner for the Indians.

Biographical note

The author of these documents is unkown. Both are annotated [by the author] as having been read before members of the Young Men's Church Missionary Union, the first at "Mr Hall's residence" in January 1882 and the second on 23 July 1884.
