Vipern Schnürre : die von Hyeronimus Mantovani, Apotheker zum Welterlösers-Schilde in der sogenannten Calle larga S. Marco in Venedig auf eine ganz besondere Art zubereitet werden / Girolamo Mantovani.

A cord soaked in the blood of a viper which, when worn around the neck was supposed to keep the bearer safe from mumps (Kehlsucht). The cord came wrapped in a folded sheet of paper with instructions, printed in black and sealed with red wax. A circular wood engraving is above the text showing Jesus Christ on a cloud with a halo and a pennant with a cross on it. The leaflet gives Hyeronimus Mantovani, an apothecary of Venice as the maker, but this has been overprinted with the Italian equivalent, Girolamo Mantovani.
