Description

Letter from H Campbell, Baron Stratheden, to Francis Galton, dated May 1893, advising that when sorting the correspondence of his deceased brother [W F Campbell] he came across letters written by Galton, and that he returns them enclosed:

Three letters from Galton, dated 05 December 1850, lat 22.7 long 17; with addition dated 28 February [1851]; and a letter dated 25 August titled "South Africa". Galton's letters describe his expedition through the Damara lands, his negotiation with Jonker Afrikaner, the Captain of the Namaqua, the methods used for obtaining and breaking in Oxen, and his plans to return to England via St Helena.
