    PREFACE. yfMONG the numerous treatifes, and effays9 that have been puhlijhed on the venereal dif¬ eafe, we have not one profeffedly written on the appearances and cure of this difeafe in Females, though they are equally obnoxious with the other moiety of the creation, to the effects of venereal infection, and too often fuffer undefervedly, from faithiefs hufbands, and ungenerous feducers. In a cafe of this kind, fhame commonly ties up the unhappy fuffer er s tongue, until the diforder is pafi concealment. Sometimes, raz/ ignorance of the pernicious nature of the complaint, prevents a virtuous woman from making an early appli¬ cation for medical affiftance, mto? the bafe au¬ thor of her misfortune, unwilling to take fhame to himfelff and acknowledge his guilty (which is furely of the greateft magnitude) fuffers the dif¬ eafe to proceed unreftn^ined^ to the inevitable deft ruff ion of the confutation, and. perhaps, the fame of the miferable viffim.
