Description

Notebook labelled 'Lecture book, Surgery. H Lehmann'. Containing notes of surgical lectures by Mr Holmes, covering haemorrhage, blood transfusion and blood groups, shock, tetanus, wounds, tumours simple or malignant, diseases of the bones, acute abdominal conditions, complications of appendicitis, surgical diseases of the liver, intestinal obstructions, diseases of the urinary tract. First lecture is dated 17 Oct 1944, last one dated 6 Feb 1945. The volume is less than one quarter full.

There are a few pages of notes written from the reverse end of the volume on gynaecology, Nov 1943, (mainly hormones and menstruation).

Contains loose foolscap size pages inserted at the front of the volume, that are lists of equipment required for various surgical procedures including rib-resection, radical mastecomy, cerebral tumour, ventriculography, plastic surgery, oesophagectomy, lobectomy, dissection of tonsils, theatre general set of instruments. Some of the lists of instruments are associated with the name of a surgeon, such as Mr Geoffrey Knight, Prof. Grey Turner and Sir Harold Gillies.
