Biographical note
The National Birthday Trust Fund (NBTF) was established in 1928 to support maternity hospitals and contribute to the development of midwifery practice. It has been involved in three major surveys including the Maternity Inquiry of 1946, the Perinatal Mortality Survey of 1958, and the British Births Survey of 1970. Each of these surveys focussed on all births that took place in a single week.
