About this work

Description

This correspondence was generated by Burkitt writing to doctors asking if they have come across any cases of the jaw tumour or to let him know if they do in the future. Burkitt was also trying to ascertain the geographical limits of the tumour occurrence, which parts of Africa and which countries it tended to occur and where it did not apparently occur and the nature of its distribution, also in the areas it does occur, what it is known as. In the letters to Burkitt the doctors describe jaw tumours, or malignant lymphoma. This series includes correspondence with tumour registries where they have been set up, also information about treatments given. Some files contain hand drawn maps, tables of statistics and patient information. These files constitute some of Burkitt's continuing studies/surveys into lymhoma prevalence.
