About this work

Description

Two green leather-bound books entitled "Galton Book", Vols. I and II, handwritten by Elizabeth Anne Wheler with additions by her son Edward Galton Wheler-Galton. The books consist of:

Records, extracts from Hutchins' Dorsetshire and descriptions of individual members of the family and genealogies.

Correspondence, photographs, prints, watercolours, drawings, signatures cut from letters, newspaper cuttings, cheques, and copies of marriage and birth certificates, all pasted or bound into the volume.

A bundle of biographical notes and clippings and an envelope of photographs were found in the inner front cover of Volume I. These were probably preparatory materials, or materials which were not included in the book; one of the postcards is annotated by Elizabeth Anne Wheler: "I wrote this for my book, but do not want it!".
