Acquisition note
The bulk of these papers (Section A) were accumulated by Ross during his membership of the Yellow Fever (West Africa) Commission. Miscellaneous Ross papers given to the Wellcome Tropical Institute were boxed with these on sorting in 1992.
A - Yellow Fever (West Africa) Commission 1913
These papers were received from Dr R I Cheverton of Malta via Dr A J Duggan, Director of the Wellcome Museum of Medical Science, along with 42 notebooks of Dr GWM Findlay (see GC/14). It seems possible that these papers of Sir Ronald Ross's membership of the Yellow Fever Commission had been in the possession of Dr Findlay.
B - Material given to the Wellcome Tropical Institute
These items came to the CMAC on the closure of the Wellcome Tropical Institute in 1989. B.2-3 were in the material given to the WTI by the Royal Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene; the rest were given by Professor L J Bruce Chwatt.
C. British Mosquito Control Institute
A file of Ross's correspondence, 1924-1927, relating to the British Mosquito Control Institute, Hayling Island, Hampshire was received from Professor Mike W. Service in October 2003; he had been given them by L. J. Bruce-Chwatt, who found the file originally at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
