Biographical note
The first meeting of the executive committee in 1953 was as the Convening Committee of the International Federation of Midwives Organisations, precursor to the ICM. This meeting drafted the agenda for the first business meeting of the new organisation, to be held prior to the Congress in May 1954.
The Executive Committee of the ICM is elected at the Triennial meeting of the Council to carry on the work of the Council between its meetings. The Committee usually meets twice in each three year period, one meeting being at the time of Congress.
The Executive Committee (EC) is comprised of General Officer and Regional Representatives elected by the Council on the recommendation of the member associations of the region concerned. Not more than one national representative may be elected from any country, and no business can be conducted unless a quorum is present of one-third of the total membership of the EC.
