Biographical note
Project Summary:The Hunterian Museum has recently undergone major change, with a dramatic redisplay of John Hunter's pathological and anatomical collection. One consequence of this change has been to highlight the way in which patients' personal accounts have been 'written out' of medical museums - turning individuals' remains into abstract 'specimens'. By using a 'layering' approach to re-situate the visual and textual narratives back onto the body, we will re-introduce some of the key narratives back into the collection, creating contemporary meaning and relevance and encouraging innovative interdisciplinary collaboration across biomedical science, history of medicine, science education and the arts.
